SATURDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Daniel Bryan spoke about his Universal Championship match against Roman Reigns at tomorrow’s Fastlane PPV: “I haven’t been in the main event of a pay-per-view for over two years. I’m going to go out there and do what I know I can do and do what I love doing. I don’t know if WWE likes this term, but it’s going to be a violent professional wrestling match. This is two guys that think they’re the best, competing for the top championship in the entire world of professional wrestling, putting it all on the line to see who truly is the best.”
Bleacher Report also has an interview with Bryan. Bryan named Kazuchika Okada, Shingo Takagi, Jungle Boy, MJF, Darby Allin, Jonathan Gresham, Kushida, Kyle O’Reilly, Finn Balor, Johnny Gargano, and Bailey Matthews (the son of William Regal) as people he’d like to face who aren’t part of WWE or aren’t part of the WWE main roster. Bryan also mentioned wanting to have one-on-one matches against Gran Metalik, Riddle, Ricochet, and Keith Lee.
Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, Paige, Wade Barrett, Chad Gable, Otis, Kaitlyn, the cast of WWE’s The Bump, Alyssa Marino, RJ City, Kazeem Famuyide, Steve Buchanan of Draftkings, and more will appear on tomorrow night’s Fastlane edition of WWE Watch Along.
Drew McIntyre spoke to Bleacher Report about in-person fans returning for WrestleMania 37: “It means the world. Last year, I’m so proud of. What we did, bringing the world an escape with WrestleMania, brought a lot of smiles on a lot of faces during a difficult time…but we’ve all been buzzing for the idea of the fans coming back. The fans are unreal, so passionate in general. They’ve been starved of WWE for a long time, and they’re ready to make some noise, and it’s so cool the first time they’re gonna be there is at WrestleMania. I’m just gonna try to not get overwhelmed. That’s gonna be the biggest challenge for me, walking out for the first time in a stadium with that many people at WrestleMania trying to compose myself. I can’t wait.”
WWE posted its liability waiver and release for WrestleMania 37 attendees.
WWE.com lists 8 p.m. Eastern as being the start time for the main cards of both nights of WrestleMania 37.
In addition to Chelsea Green being backstage at last night’s SmackDown, Santana Garrett posted a picture while backstage at the show and wrote that she was “Feeling BLUE.” Neither Green nor Garrett appeared on last night’s SmackDown.
On Talking Smack this week, Paul Heyman made a reference to Charly Caruso reportedly being done with WWE. Heyman joked with Kayla Braxton that WWE “got rid of the wrong female journalist around here.”
Also on Talking Smack, Heyman reacted to Eric Bischoff’s upcoming induction into the WWE Hall of Fame: “This is an honor that is long overdue, and it’s well-earned. It’s most deserved. The criterion to be in the WWE Hall of Fame is impact upon the industry and it would be very hard for anyone to argue that Eric Bischoff did not make as significant an impact on this industry as almost anybody else in its history. I respect WWE for having the intelligence, and for understanding just how much Eric Bischoff belongs in the Hall of Fame. And I congratulate, profoundly congratulate my old rival Eric Bischoff for his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame class 2021. I would like to add, however, that if you look back in history — and I don’t do that often — that the 1990s in this industry were ruled by Eric Bischoff, Paul Heyman, and Vincent Kennedy McMahon. And only one of us is still relevant enough to be on television each and every week. On top. In the main event of WrestleMania, with the biggest star in the industry, the champ — Roman Reigns.”
Ben Askren told Chris Van Vliet about visiting the WWE Performance Center: “I went down there in October. It was fun, they were really cool… I left with an open door there. I’m running my Askren Wrestling Academy business so I don’t think it’s something I would do full time but I would be interested in doing a little something with them. I really like them, everyone there was really cool and they run a really professional operation down there, it was awesome.”
Samoa Joe, R-Truth, and Rey & Dominik Mysterio rewatched the fatal four-way US title match from Fastlane 2019. The match featured Joe, R-Truth, Rey, and Andrade.
In an extra clip from this Sunday’s Broken Skull Sessions episode, Randy Orton played word association with Steve Austin.
WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Austin vs. The Rock from WrestleMania XIX, Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair from Fastlane 2019, and the fatal four-way Women’s Tag Team title match from WrestleMania 35.
