Italian designers are extending their savoir faire to couture hotels – luxury dwellings with fashionable interiors that reflect the spirit of the house. The trend began with the much-anticipated Bulgari hotel in Milan, followed by Cerruti and Alberta Ferretti. First up is the newly-refurbished plaza hotel in New york which has launched a series of Versace Home ‘couture’ private residences. The Italian fashion house also operates the opulent Palazzo Versace Gold Coast in Australia.
But, if Versace isn’t what you’re after, fret not, there are plenty of fashionable places to stay to suit your taste level. Moschino is opening a hotel in Milan’s Brera district in September this year, just off Corso Como. Missoni last year signed a deal with with Rezidor SAS and the first hotel is due to open in Kuwait City this year. Expect their trademark zigzag and bold patterns from the Home Collection to dominate. A second hotel will open in Edinburgh in early 2009.
Giorgio Armani is launching Hotel Armani at the end of this year in the Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest building. Hotel Armani Dubai – the first of ten Armani properties, will have 160 guest rooms and more than 40,000sq m of impeccable beige and black decor.
We are hoping a Prada hotel will soon follow.
