Mysterio Not Coming to WWE, O’Reilly Joins NXT, Ellsworth Return

It was reported recently that Rey Mysterio would be leaving Lucha Underground soon, and that he was in talks to either return to WWE or debut for GFW. To update the situation, Sports Illustrated is now claiming that Mysterio is not going to be coming back to WWE. The company was believed to be interested in bringing Mysterio back as an ambassador for the Latin American demographic. Vince McMahon reportedly passed on signing Rey due to his friendship with Konnan, Mysterio’s representative. Mysterio could still end up in any number of promotions as Global Force Wrestling has still not yet officially signed him to any sort of contract.
This past week’s edition of NXT saw the surprise debut of former Ring of Honor World Champion Kyle O’Reilly. Kyle arrived in Full Sail University to challenge the undefeated Aleister Black. While O’Reilly did come up short in that match, it appears as though he has been rewarded for his efforts with an NXT contract. This comes not long after the news that his former tag team partner in ROH, Bobby Fish, had also been signed by WWE after losing to Black a few weeks back. While it is not a guarantee that they will be paired back up, NXT could use new tag teams, and an ‘ROH’ faction is rumored to be in development at the moment. Regardless, O’Reilly is officially part of NXT.

Smackdown star James Ellsworth is scheduled to be making his return to Smackdown any week now. The manager of Carmella was suspended by General Manager Daniel Bryan without pay for thirty days. However, his suspension officially ended on August 4th. It appears as though Ellsworth will be returning to Smackdown soon, and he could be coming back as early as the next episode which will be airing this Tuesday night. Ellsworth sent out a tweet reminding fans of the date and time that his suspension ended, but that tweet has since been deleted. It may be likely that WWE is saving his return for the upcoming show and they want fans to be surprised.
