The two longest-reigning NXT Champions in history faced off last night for the right to hold the title again.
It was Finn Balor who became a two-time NXT Champion. He defeated Adam Cole on NXT Super Tuesday II last night to win the vacant title. Balor got the win after giving Cole a 1916 DDT off the top rope.
Triple H and William Regal greeted Balor backstage after his win, then Balor and Cole shook hands and gave each other a Too Sweet. Balor cut a brief promo saying that becoming champion again is why he returned to NXT.
Later in the show, Cole was interviewed and admitted that Balor was the better man in their match. Cole said he respects Balor, but Balor better hope that Cole doesn’t get another shot at the NXT Championship. Cole said the result will be a lot different if he does.
The title match was set up when last week’s four-way 60-minute Iron Man match between Balor, Cole, Johnny Gargano, and Tommaso Ciampa ended in a two-way tie.
Balor vs. Cole opened last night’s NXT. In the main event, Rhea Ripley defeated Mercedes Martinez in their steel cage match. It was revealed after the show that the Robert Stone Brand and Martinez are parting ways.
