‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan Requests PM Modi Not To Agree To Delhi Govt’s Free Ride Scheme For Women

‘Metro Man’ as he is fondly called, former Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to agree to the proposal as it would set an “alarming precedence”. Opposing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s proposed free travel scheme for women in the Delhi Metro trains, he said the “disease” will spread fast to all other metros in the country, making them dependent on state government for subsidies.

In a letter to the PM Modi, Sreedharan, said if the Delhi government is “so keen” to help women commuters, it can pay the cost of their travel directly to them rather than making travel free on metro trains.

Canada pole ‘at the low end’, admits Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton will start on pole position for Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix after pipping his team mate Nico Rosberg to the top spot by just 0.062s – the closest margin in qualifying so far this season.

But Hamilton didn’t feel that he had extracted the most out of his car in the session, and admitted that despite clinching his fifth pole of the year (and fifth in Canada) it was ‘at the low end’ of his qualifying performances.

“Honestly that wasn’t a great qualifying for me in terms of laps, they weren’t that great. My pole lap was definitely at the lower end of the pole laps that I’ve had.

“I’m pretty happy that I’m still on pole [but] I think there’s always room to improve.”

Qualifying was certainly much tighter than Friday’s practice had suggested, where Hamilton had topped both FP1 and FP2 by around three tenths of a second from the competition.

“To be honest it doesn’t matter how far ahead you are as long as you are ahead,” he said. “Of course in practice it was a much bigger gap and today I just didn’t have the pace I had yesterday, but clearly it was enough.

“I think there was definitely more time in it, but it was great to see how close we all were. I think that is great for the fans to see and an amazing turn-out on the Saturday here as always and I am glad it stayed dry. It is going to be interesting tomorrow, but [pole] is the best place to start that is for sure.”

Perhaps more surprising that the close shave with his team mate was how close Sebastian Vettel had come to matching them both in the Ferrari.

“Yes, Ferrari have picked up the pace with the upgrades they have brought on their car and this is a great track to test their ultimate speed,” Hamilton agreed.

“We are excited to have the race with them. I think it will be exciting for the fans. I think there long runs looked strong and I don’t know if it was a lot stronger than ours. But we shall see tomorrow.”

Ils forment le duo vedette de Once Upon a Time in…

Once Upon a Time…

McLaren not interested in 2017 line-up yet – Boullier

Eric Boullier says McLaren-Honda has not considered its driver line-up for the 2017 F1 season yet, adding that “it would be a distraction for the team”.

The British outfit currently has world champions Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button under contract but the latter’s deal reportedly expires at the end of the current campaign.

And while the Spaniard is theoretically locked in until 2017, his name has often appeared on the silly season’s rumour mill in the light of McLaren-Honda’s steady but slow progress.

Meanwhile, reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne has been tipped for a full-time role next year, even more so after his convincing points-scoring grand prix debut in Bahrain last April.

Asked whether McLaren-Honda had begun addressing the question of its 2017 pairing, Boullier replied: “No, absolutely nothing. We have not started discussing anything with any drivers. It’s too early in the season so it would be too distracting for the team.”

When suggested to him that he wanted to keep the current line up on their toes, the racing director added: “Exactly, yeah. It’s part of the game.”

Palmer uses video game to learn Baku

Jolyon Palmer has taken to using a video game to learn the new Baku City Circuit ahead of this weekend’s Grand Prix of Europe.

The track in Azerbaijan is a new addition to the calendar, and as a street circuit is still being finished off ahead of track running starting on Friday. As a result, Renault does not have the circuit on its simulator and Palmer says he has been playing video games to get a first impression of the track layout.

“It’s a brand new track so we don’t have it on the simulator, so I’ve done a few laps on the F1 game!” Palmer said. “So I’ve had a little look in advance! My engineers have done their homework but the first real impression will be made when we’re doing the track walk then getting laps on the Friday to learn the circuit. It’ll be the same for everyone.

“I think it looks a cool track, there’s some high speed sections – especially for a street circuit – and overtaking is a possibility. The crazy middle sector looks difficult with its undulation and the sector looks very tight. Any mistakes on a street circuit tend to mean you’re into the wall, so you have to be alert.”

Despite having to retire from the Canadian Grand Prix due to a water leak, Palmer is happy with the progress being made by Renault even if the results have yet to follow.

“We made a step forward with the car, but some better luck and finishes would be good now. I’m happy with the progress being made for the rest of the season. Okay, I can’t be happy at not finishing in Montréal, but the new engine is a step forward and it’s worth a lot of time. The team are pushing hard, we’re finding stuff on the car and the engine is working well. There’s a little pain now, but I’m sure we’ll be looking better for going through it.”

Honda surprised by Renault token spend

Honda’s head of F1 project Yusuke Hasegawa is surprised by how few tokens Renault spent on its latest power unit upgrade.

Renault introduced its B-spec power unit in Monaco, with Daniel Ricciardo going on to take pole position for Red Bull. Remi Taffin said the update “includes significant modifications to the combustion system” and delivers an improvement of around 0.5s per lap, with Renault spending just three development tokens on the new power unit.

With Honda pondering its first token spend of the season ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, when asked if Renault’s upgrade shows what is possible without spending a significant amount of tokens, Hasegawa replied: “Right, this is very surprising.

“I wonder, if their update is as rumoured – that they are changing the combustion system – I don’t think they can do it with just three tokens. So I don’t know how they did that.”

Asked if he was surprised by the performance of the upgrade in Monaco, Hasegawa replied: “Yeah.

“Of course I am judging it with some rumours so I don’t see the actual number.”

Renault itself is hoping to see the “full benefit” of its power unit upgrade at this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix, which is a more power sensitive track compared to Monaco.

We are in 2019 but some people are already centuries ahead with their weird acts. Every now and then, bizarre incidents come to the fore reading which we spill into laughter. Recently, a man, apparently inspired by comic character and superhero Spiderman, tried to climb a four-storey building to meet his girlfriend but ended up being thrashed. He was assaulted violently after locals spotted him and mistook him for a thief.

Not only this incident, there are many others and we’ve compiled the list here.

1. Motorman stops train between stations to take a leak on the tracks

Trains have toilets and whenever there’s a need to use it, one should be using it. However, this motorman stopped a Mumbai local train in order to pee on the tracks. He stopped the train between the railway stations Ulhasnagar and Vitthalwadi to relieve himself and was captured on video while doing that.
