Migrant caravan vows to remain on border crossing without food or water until Mexican authorities grant access

Thousands of migrants making their way towards the United States remain stuck on a river crossing between Guatemala and Mexico without food or water.

The migrants, part of a caravan of around 4,000 people, have vowed to remain there until Mexican authorities grant them entry into the country  despite conditions on the bridge worsening with a growing pile up of  rubbish and no bathrooms.

Tensions flared on the Suchiate river crossing late on Friday when the migrants attempted to force their way across the border and Mexican riot police threw tear gas at the crowd.

Meanwhile, many Hondurans, mostly men, swam across the river and remain on the riverbank on Saturday, on the Mexican side of the border, waiting  for the rest of the caravan to cross.

Around 200 people who did manage cross, mainly women and children, were taken to an immigration centre, where their details were recorded.

They were later transported to a convention centre located in the city of Tapachula, an hour’s drive from the border, that has been turned into a makeshift shelter.

The remaining migrants – thought to number about 3,000 – have also moved about 30 feet back from the Mexican border gate, in order to avoid repeating the chaos caused on Friday night.

Selvin Flores, a 35-year-old Honduran shopkeeper, said people who "were  causing disorder" have been expelled from the group and handed over to  Guatemalan police.

The caravan formed last Saturday in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and arrived  in Guatemala on Monday.

Migrants within the group have said they are bound for the United States, seeking work and fleeing political corruption and  violence.

The caravan has drawn the ire of President Donald Trump, who threatened to  shut down America’s southwest border if Mexico did not halt the group, despite the huge impact it would have on trade flows between the two countries.

He also repeated a threat to suspend foreign aid to the governments of  Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador if they fail to act.

Mr Trump has been focusing on immigration as he campaigns for Republican candidates ahead of November’s midterm elections.

He has called the attempt to enter the US an "assault on our country" at rallies and stressed that tackling immigration was far more important to him than trade.

The president’s administration has struggled to tackle the worsening  immigration numbers as Mr Trump hits the limits of what he is able to legally do without the support of Congress.

The issue has caused a deep rift among Mr Trump’s top advisers, culminating  in a heated row between his chief of staff John Kelly and national security  adviser John Bolton last week.

Mr Trump on Saturday blamed "obstructionist" Democrats for the failure to  tackle the issue. "We could write up and agree to new immigration laws in  less than one hour. Look at the needless pain and suffering that they are  causing. Look at the horrors taking place on the Border," he said.

After the caravan’s leaders, Bartolo Fuentes, a former Congressman, and  Juan Carlos Lopez, were arrested by the Guatemalan authorities and deported to Honduras, there has been a notable absence of leadership within the  group.

On Friday night, tensions and scuffles erupted as exhausted Hondurans, many  of whom are traveling with young children, braced themselves to spend the  night on the bridge.

A group of women began to sing and pray in an effort  to calm the situation. “I felt very scared. I kept running back and forth because I’m not used to  this mayhem”, said Heidy Marleny Castro, 44, who is travelling with her two  youngest children, aged 8 and 13.

“We’re going to stay here until we get  help, no matter how long it takes. If need to endure hunger and thirst, so  be it,” she said.

Like many other Hondurans, Mrs Castro is fleeing rampant violence as  well as poverty. Two of her children were murdered in 2015.

With a total of 3,791 murders in 2017 (a murder rate of 42.8 per 100,000  inhabitants), Honduras is one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

Although the caravan’s goal is to reach the United States, some Hondurans  have said they would be willing to apply for working visas in Mexico, after newly elected president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador promised to provide job  opportunities to Central Americans.

“If we’re given the opportunity to reach Mexico, at least we’ll be in a  safer place”, said Mrs Castro. “We’re here because we have no other choice. We want a better life for our children."

CNN reporter Jim Acosta banned from White House after Donald Trump brands him ‘a terrible person’

CNN correspondent Jim Acosta was denied entry to the White House on Wednesday evening following a heated row with President Donald Trump, who called him a "rude, terrible person" during a press conference.

Mr Acosta, CNN’s chief White House correspondent, said he was informed by Secret Service officers that he could not enter for his scheduled 8pm broadcast.

Officials later confirmed that his credentials had been revoked.

The episode will reignite fears that Mr Trump has scant regard for press freedom and is intent on limiting space for critical coverage.

Hours earlier Mr Acosta found himself in the president’s line of fire during a news conference called to trumpet Republican success in Tuesday’s midterm elections, but which quickly turned hostile when Mr Trump opened the floor to questions.

Mr Acosta asked the president about his reference to migrants travelling towards America as an "invasion".

"Honestly, I think you should let me run the country and you run CNN," Mr Trump snapped, adding "and if you did it well, you’re ratings would be much better".

Mr Acosta persevered in his attempt to question the president, but Mr Trump told him: "That’s enough. Put down the mic."

"You are a rude terrible person," he added. "The way you treat [White House press secretary] Sarah Huckabee is horrible… You shouldn’t treat people that way."

"When you report fake news…you are an enemy of the people," he said, as an intern tried to take the microphone from the reporter.

The president also berated NBC News correspondent Peter Alexander, telling him "I’m not a big fan of yours either".

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, White House press secretary, confirmed that Mr Acosta was no longer permitted entry.

“As a result of today’s incident, the White House is suspending the hard pass of the reporter involved until further notice,” she said.

Mr Trump has repeatedly lambasted what he calls the "fake news media", particularly CNN, during the course of his presidency.

The news network was sharply critical of the president’s rhetoric and attacks on the media after a number of pipe bombs were delivered to its newsroom last month.

During Wednesday’s press conference Mr Trump was also rebuked for telling another reporter he could not understand her accent.

Meanwhile an African American reporter for PBS who asked Mr Trump whether his embrace of ‘nationalism’ is ‘white nationalism’ was told her question was "racist" and "insulting".

"Why do I have my highest poll numbers ever with African Americans?" he responded to Yamiche Alcindor. "That’s such a racist question. It’s insulting to me."

Triple H Update, WrestleMania Party Cancelled, Homecoming Matches

During WWE’s recent Crown Jewel event, what was supposed to be an exciting main event between DX and the Brothers of Destruction took a devastating turn when Triple H injured his shoulder during the match. Despite recently undergoing surgery for his injury, Triple H continued on with the planned NXT media call this week. During the call, Triple H took a moment to provide an update on the condition of his shoulder. The multi-time world champion stated that he had the surgery last week and is now in the process of rehabbing the injury. There is still no word on when Triple H will be fully healed from the injury, he has said that he will still be attending the NXT Takeover and Survivor Series event in Los Angeles this weekend.
“I had surgery a week ago yesterday, everything is feeling good. I’m
using an immobilizer now. On the road to recovery, it is just rehab,
rehab, rehab now. I will be back. That does not stop this machine from
rolling on, it is business as usual. I will be heading to Los Angeles
tomorrow to begin preparations for what is a very exciting NXT TakeOver.”
Triple H said.
WWE is bringing WrestleMania back to the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey in April of 2019, and the company planned on hosting an on-sale party for the event yesterday. The event was set to take place today, and it featured appearances from WWE Superstars, as well as a few live matches from NXT competitors. Unfortunately, the company has just announced that the on-sale party has been cancelled due to reports of inclement weather in the area. WWE has also stated that there will not be a make-up date for the on-sale party. There will not be an on-sale party for New Jersey residents today, but WWE will still be making the tickets for WrestleMania available this Friday at 10am ET.

Following a successful Bound for Glory pay-per-view a few weeks ago, Impact Wrestling is already in the process of loading up the card for their next big event. Impact will be returning to The Asylum in Nashville, Tennessee on January 6th for a pay-per-view called Homecoming. Fans in attendance for the TV tapings for Impact in Las Vegas, Nevada this week, numerous matches were confirmed for the upcoming show. Brian Cage will be cashing in his X-Division Championship for a shot at Johnny Impact’s Impact World Championship. The show will also feature a Monster’s Ball match between Abyss and Eli Drake, as well as an Ultimate X match for the vacant X-Division title featuring Rich Swann, Ethan Page, Trey Miguel, and Jake Crist.

WWE Experiments With LED Bracelets At TakeOver, Guests Present

WWE tested a new interactive experience at last Saturday night’s NXT TakeOver: WarGames II Event by handing out bracelets to fans as they entered The Staples Center. Fans had to activate the bracelet by sending a text message to a phone number provided. The bracelets changed colors during various Superstar entrances and were really used during The Velveteen Dream’s entrance. WWE Executives recently talked about overhauling the live event experience during a shareholder conference call as a way to help increase live event business and this could be one of the ways they plan on revamping things.
You can check out a few photos of the bracelets below:
