Earth might be composed of 70 per cent water and 30 per cent land but rivers are turning into dumping grounds might not retain their original volume of water. Discharging waste into rivers has often lead to havoc. Just yesterday, the Mumbai sea showed its fury when it dumped 9 tonnes of trash onto the road during a high tide.
The toxic foam spewing from Bengaluru’s Bellandur lake is another example. For long, the civic bodies have found a convenient trash spot where all types of waste can find shelter. However, it is not only polluting underground water bodies but leading to filthy environments as well. Unhygienic environment means breeding of mosquitoes, followed by diseases and epidemics.
