CW Orders Batwoman Pilot With Game of Thrones Director Involved

The CW’s Batwoman project, starring Ruby Rose, has been given a pilot pickup order and Game of Thrones director David Nutter will helm the pilot.

As reported by EW, this pilot pickup order follows the DC crossover event that introduced Ruby Rose’s Batwoman and took place in three parts across The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl.

EW also has the official description of the series, which is as follows;

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (star Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

As previously mentioned, Emmy-winning director David Nutter will lead the pilot. Nutter has directed such episodes of Game of Thrones as The Rains of Castamere (The Red Wedding), and has more episodes on the way in the upcoming final season.

Additionally, Nutter is “also know around Hollywood as “the pilot whisperer” as he’s credited with directing numerous successful pilots that were eventually picked up to series.”

His credits, alongside Game of Thrones, include first episodes of such series as The Flash, Arrow, The Mentalist, Supernatural, Without a Trace, and Smallville.

There have been reports of a Batwoman TV series dating back to July of 2018 and we’ve recently discussed how this crossover event set up the now announced spinoff series.

DC One Million

DC One Million explored the distant future of the DCU, taking palce in the 853rd Century (the time when writer Grant Morrison calculated that DC would finally publish the millionth issue of Action Comics). In this story, the present-day Justice League of America joined forces with the futuristic Justice Legion Alpha to defeat the alliance of Vandal Savage and Solaris the Living Sun.

This crossover could give the Arrowverse an opportunity to do better by Savage compared to how he's been handled so far. But more importantly, it would be fun to see what the Arrowverse might look like tens of thousands of years in the future. Even the Legends haven't jumped nearly that far forward.”,”height”:666,”width”:1185,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/dc-one-million-1527117062950.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/dc-one-million-1527117062950_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:”03″,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”Armageddon 2001

Armageddon 2001 launched with a simple and engaging premise – a hero from the future named Waverider arrived in the present with a dire warning. One of Earth's heroes is destined to fall to evil and become a tyrant named Monarch. Unfortunately, the identity of that hero leaked before DC finished publishing the story, causing a last-minute rewrite that basically ruined things.

We'd like to see the Arrowverse take a crack at this iconic but controversial crossover, ideally without the sudden plot change this time. Which Arrowverse favorite will become Monarch? Is there any hope of preventing that future from coming to pass? That's all the dramatic impetus the crossover needs. “,”height”:563,”width”:1000,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/armageddon-2001-1527117062939.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/armageddon-2001-1527117062939_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:”04″,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”President Luthor

DC sent the Superman comics into a major upheaval in the early 2000s when Lex Luthor was elected president, much to Superman's chagrin. Why not make that the catalyst for a big Arrowverse crossover? We're still waiting for Lex to actually appear on Supergirl, and perhaps the premise would allow the shows to tackle a little real-world allegory at the same time. Plus, both major crossovers have taken place on Earth-1 so far. Why not have Barry, Ollie and friends venture over to Earth-38 for a change?”,”height”:1601,”width”:2846,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/president-luthor-1527117062968.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/president-luthor-1527117062968_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:”05″,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”Day of Judgment

The Spectre is one of the most powerful supernatural forces in the DC Universe, but it must always be bonded with a human host in order to ensure it remains grounded in the affairs of mortal men. Day of Judgment explores what happens when the Spectre loses its host and heroes and villains clash over the fate of the Spirit of Vengeance.

We might have gotten a Spectre-driven conflict on Constantine had that series lasted longer than 13 episodes. Fortunately, with John Constantine becoming a series regular on Legends of Tomorrow, there's the chance to make up for lost time. Day of Vengeance's greatest impact was having disgraced Green Lantern Hal Jordan bond with the Spectre. Even if a different host is chosen in the Arrowverse, it would be interesting to see which hero makes the ultimate sacrifice.”,”height”:497,”width”:883,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/day-of-judgment-1527117062948.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/day-of-judgment-1527117062948_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:”06″,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”The Final Night

If you've ever found yourself thinking that the 2007 movie Sunshine would be better with superheroes, The Final Night is the comic for you. This series force the Justice league to join forces with Lex Luthor when a monster called the Sun-Eater threatened to leave the world trapped in perpetual darkness. That would make for a clear, exciting premise for an Arrowverse crossover, and one that could just as easily take place on Earth-1 or Earth-38. “,”height”:553,”width”:983,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/final-night-1527117062958.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/final-night-1527117062958_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:”07″,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come is another great option for a crossover built around showcasing the future of the Arrowverse. In this story, Superman has gone into hiding and a new generation of reckless, destructive heroes has risen up in his place. Only the Spectre and an ordinary human pastor stand in the way of total nuclear armageddon. We'd love to see the Arrowverse equivalent of this story, whether there's time travel involved or it's simply treated as a glimpse of a possible alternate future. “,”height”:798,”width”:1419,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/kingdome-come-1527117062961.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/kingdome-come-1527117062961_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:”08″,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”Legends

Legends is a crossover that begins with a simple wager between Darkseid and the Phantom Stranger, with Darkseid betting that he can turn the people of Earth against their heroes. To do so, he sends his smooth-talking minion Glorious Godfrey to sow chaos and dissent on Earth. Legends wound up impacting a great many DC characters and paved the way for all sorts of new comics and teams. Ideally, the TV version would do the same. It would also allow the Arrowverse to dabble with the New Gods without having to commit to a full-blown (and probably hugely expensive) Fourth World storyline. “,”height”:1078,”width”:1917,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/legends-1527117062964.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/legends-1527117062964_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:”09″,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”Underworld Unleashed

In Underworld Unleashed, newly minted lord of Hell Neron offered Faustian bargains to a number of heroes and villains. Many agreed to sell their souls in exchange for the return of dead loved ones or greater power (or a box of Cuban cigars, in the case of the Joker). This seems like a perfect conflict for the Arrowverse. From Oliver Queen to Barry Allen to Sara Lance, who wouldn't be tempted by the chance to bring back someone they lost?”,”height”:586,”width”:1041,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/underworld-unleashed-1527117062969.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/underworld-unleashed-1527117062969_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:10,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”Forever Evil

When the Crime Syndicate (evil doppelgangers of the Justice League from an alternate universe) overthrow Earth's heroes and become the new ruling power, it falls on the villains of the DCU to fight back. That's basically the premise of Forever Evil, with Lex Luthor leading a team that includes Black Adam, Bizarro, Catwoman and Captain Cold. That lineup would no doubt need to change for the TV version, but we'd love the chance to see some of the biggest villains in the Arrowverse play the heroes for a while.”,”height”:899,”width”:1597,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/forever-evil-1527117062959.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/forever-evil-1527117062959_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:11,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”Final Crisis' impact on the DCU proved more contained than in past Crisis events. Batman was seemingly killed by Darkseid, only for the final page to reveal he had been thrust back in time instead. The ruined world of Earth-51 became home to the resurrected New Gods, the Tomorrow People, Kamandi and other Jack Kirby creations. And perhaps most significantly, the series ushered in the return of Barry Allen, who had sacrificed himself way back in Crisis on Infinite Earths.”,”height”:843,”width”:1498,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/final-crisis-1527117062956.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/final-crisis-1527117062956_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:12,”albumTotalCount”:13},{“caption”:”Final Crisis: Revelations

Another option when it comes to Final Crisis is to focus on Revelations, a spinoff series that details the street-level impact of Darkseid's attack. Among other things, Revelations features the Religion of Crime flocking to the banner of Vandal Savage, revealed to be the Biblical figure Cain. That seems like all the justification the Legends would need to get involved in this conflict. Revelations also prominently features Batwoman, a character who just happens to be making her Arrowverse debut soon.”,”height”:1117,”width”:1986,”url”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/final-crisis-revelations-1527117062953.jpg”,”styleUrl”:”https://assets1.ignimgs.com/2018/05/23/final-crisis-revelations-1527117062953_{size}.jpg”,”credit”:””,”objectRelationName”:””,”objectRelationUrl”:””,”albumName”:”12 DC Comics We Want as Arrowverse Crossovers”,”relativePosition”:13,”albumTotalCount”:13}]’
