KENTA recently appeared on New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Official English Podcast. The appearance didn’t last long, but he definitely made the most of his time.
The former WWE Superstar made it known that he was happy to now be a part of New Japan. The man once known as Hideo Itami made his shocking debut at Dominion on June 9, when he was introduced by Katsuyori Shibata. KENTA announced to the Osaka crowd that he will compete in the G1 Climax tournament, which is set to kick off on July 6.
KENTA revealed why he chose New Japan as his new home.
“Now New Japan goes worldwide–I want to show my wrestling to the world as KENTA, not Hideo Itami. I want to show my wrestling to the world and so New Japan goes worldwide, U.S. or UK, everybody knows, New Japan. So, I decided New Japan.”
But KENTA isn’t waiting on a challenge from anyone, because he’s already talking about who he wants to face in New Japan. The first name he mentioned was Jon Moxley, who worked in WWE as Dean Ambrose, while KENTA worked as Hideo Itami.
“He was at the top of WWE you know and I’m not so, we never talk about this. I want to have match with him, because now I’m not just stupid Hideo Itami. Now I’m KENTA. I want to fight him as KENTA so, I want to kick his a**.”
KENTA also said that he wants a match with current IWGP champion Kazuchika Okada, as well as the newly crowned IWGP Intercontinental champion, Tetsuya Naito.
KENTA said he needs to focus on the G1, which he believes is the hardest tournament in the world. The tournament’s kickoff in Dallas marks the first time that the G1 Climax has taken place in a country outside of Japan.
'Moxley? Over there I was just stupid Hideo Itami. Now I'm KENTA. I want to kick his ass'
