It’s a brand-new episode of the “Up In The Blue Seats” podcast with former Rangers great Ron Duguay. This episode has a ton of discussion about Igor Shesterkin and just how brilliant the rookie goalie has been in winning six of his first seven career starts.
Ron and I then get into the future of Henrik Lundqvist in New York. I talk about my encounter with one of Lundqvist’s good friends from Sweden at a bar after Friday’s game. Will King Henrik return for the final year of his contract next season? Will the the future Hall of Famer retire a Ranger or play elsewhere?
NY Post Rangers beat writer Larry Brooks then drops by in his weekly spot to discuss everything going on with the team. He discusses how Shesterkin has cemented himself as the No. 1 goalie and the role Lundqvist has played as a mentor to the rookie. They also talk about the trade deadline and whether Chris Kreider or anybody else will be moved. Could the Rangers become buyers if they win the next few games? Are they in a legit playoff race or are those hopes out the window?
In “Ron Remembers,” Ron looks back at his times hanging out with Andy Warhol. Ron has talked a lot about Warhol getting him on the cover of Interview Magazine and how it led to him meeting Farrah Fawcett and many other celebrities. He looks back at a time roller-blading with Warhol and how Christie Brinkley got involved.
Stanley Cup champion Rangers goalie Mike Richter then joins the show. Richter breaks down Shesterkin’s strong start and how the style of goaltending has changed from when he played. The Rangers great talks about going up against the legendary Martin Brodeur and the Devils in 1994. He also looks back at good and bad memories from the 1994 team under coach Mike Keenan: Keenan could be hard on players, but it made them a better team.
