WWE SmackDown ratings hold up despite NBA Finals competition

Overnight viewership for SmackDown on Fox saw the show increase slightly from last week’s overnight number, averaging 2.043 million viewers. The second hour of the show went up against the beginning of game two of the NBA Finals, which look to be doing record-low ratings for the finals in that sport.

SmackDown opened with 2.105 million in the first hour but fell far more than usual in the second hour, averaging 1.98 million, which is likely due to the basketball game. The NBA Finals game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat averaged 4.3 million viewers in the 9-10 p.m. Eastern time hour that aired opposite SmackDown.

Last week’s SmackDown averaged 2.032 million viewers in the overnight ratings, but the final number was 2.110 million viewers.

In the 18-49 demo, last night’s SmackDown averaged a 0.55 rating, identical to last week’s overnight number. It beat out everything except ABC programming which was the NBA as well as a special episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live that was more or less a pre-game show.

In 18-34, SmackDown did a 0.25 rating, its lowest number since August 7. It not only trailed ABC in that demo but two different shows on CBS as well. In fact, the second hour of SmackDown did a 0.2 in the 18-34 demo, which is the same rating that AEW Dynamite on TNT had Wednesday night.
