One almighty party planned for Galway as Connacht’s homecoming parade confirmed

PAT LAM’S CONNACHT will be given a hero’s welcome in Galway on Sunday afternoon with an open-top bus parade planned for the newly crowned Guinness Pro12 champions.

The western province completed their fairytale season by claiming a historic first Pro12 title with an emphatic win over Leinster at Murrayfield.

Tries from back three Tiernan O’Halloran, Nigerian Niyi Adeolokun and Matthew Healy sealed a memorable win on an indelible day for the people of Connacht.

And Galway City Council have wasted little time in announcing the details of the team’s homecoming with a huge party on the streets of Galway planned for tomorrow.

“Galway City Council joins in congratulating our triumphant heroes of the Connacht Rugby team following their great win earlier today in the Guinness Pro12 Final in Edinburgh,” a statement read.

“In partnership with Connacht Rugby, An Garda Siochána and Galway Fire & Rescue Service, Galway City Council are facilitating a homecoming event on Sunday afternoon through the streets of Galway City, the Capital of Connacht.

“Parking restrictions will be in place all along the route from early Sunday morning. An Garda Siochána and Galway City Council will implement a traffic management plan on Sunday afternoon which will include rolling closures on streets and junctions affected in the area of the bus route and in the vicinity of The Sportsground itself.

“Members of the public are requested to cooperate with An Garda Siochána, Galway City Council and Connacht Rugby stewards in ensuring a joyous yet safe occasion.

“Connacht Abú!”
